This version of the Gene genealogy program adds no new features to Gene over the previous release (4.1); instead we have concentrated on fixing bugs. Changes include enabling "Save PICT file" from trees, fixing preferences for date modifiers and fonts, activating the Enter key on dialogs, enabling cut and paste in file dialogs, fixing redisplay when scrolling the summary window, handling long year ranges better, remembering that the file has changed when one continues editing notes after a save, better interaction with the "Aaron" extension, enabling printouts longer than the previous 12-page limit, improved handling of whitespace in GEDCOM import/export, ability to run with no printer selected, and elimination of an uninitialized variable in Gene's initialization code that may have been causing crashes for some users.
Gene is shareware, with payment processing handled by Kagi Shareware. If you use Gene, register your copy by running the Register program that accompanies Gene. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of copies of Gene you wish to register (at $15 each; site and world-wide licenses also available). Save or copy or print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi at the address listed on the printout, as detailed below. You will receive an email acknowledgement when your registration is processed (within 3 to 4 days for email, up to 10 days after receipt for mail or fax).
• If paying with credit card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi Shareware. Their email address is shareware@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message, save the data to a file and attach that file to an email message, or fax the data directly to the Kagi fax number. There is no need to compress the data file, it’s already pretty small.
• If you are paying with cash or check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form:
Kagi Shareware
1442-A Walnut Street #392-DD
Berkeley, California 94709-1405
USA
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method.
• If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select “Invoice” as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi Shareware can not invoice your company, so you need to generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Registered users of previous versions of Gene may upgrade to 4.1.1 at no charge.
